Mac McAnally had a surprise waiting for him after he performed with his friend Jimmy Buffett and Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart at the memorial service for legendary broadcaster Walter Cronkite in New York on Wednesday.
Russ Corey, Staff Writer for the Times Daily writes
To top off his day, McAnally was informed that he has been nominated for two Country Music Association Awards, including Musician of the Year for the second year in a row. He won the award in 2008.
In typical laid-back Ma…

2009 Buffett at Nissan ...
It was a great, great time, with everyone who came for the Thursday show ... our group was small, but BIG on friendship and fun! Food was great, and everyone on
"Tailgate Row" became a family before the afternoon was finished.
I met folks from all over Virginia from Roanoke to Tidewater, Fredrecksburg to Pulaski. There were lots from Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and I met folk from as far away as Nashville, Chicago, and New Orleans. There were…

Members phlocked into Dave's Taverna in Harrisonburg on March 5th to celebrate 4 years as the Shenandoah Valley's only Parrot Head Club.
Coral Reefer Doyle Grisham and Key West Band's Michael Armstrong entertained a near-capacity crowd. In return, the club raised $1000 for the Susan G Koman for the Cure Foundation; a national organization for breast cancer awareness and research.
This was Doyle's first visit to the Valley but certainly not his last.
The membership would like to give a huge "F…

The Queen B of GG wants to make sure you remember that she is not only an actress, but a singer as well.
Last month, Leighton Meester's single song, Birthday, was "leaked" onto the internet. We liked it enough.
While shooting a music video for Cobra Starship, MTV caught up with Blair to ask about her upcoming album. She assured them that it was on its way, dropping sometime…

The 18th Annual Meeting Of The Minds 2009 "Floridays" is very excited to announce playing on a stage near you in Key West
"Little Feat".
"Little Feat" has been around since 1969. They are as American as apple pie and rock 'n roll with a little Dixie inflected funk boogie. In 1990 Jimmy Buffett introduced "Little Feat" to the Parrot Head Nation.
This past year 2008 "Little Feat" released their latest CD "Join The Band", that featured Jimmy Buffett on "Time Loves A Hero". Th…

After reading Jimmy's diary about his time on the Outer Banks, I'm thinking the Fins should think about a vacation on the Outer Banks. Although it's a complete reversal of the usual Fins of the Valley 'outing' -- not exactly a trip to a Buffett concert at Nissan, or a Parrothead weekend adjustment. But to me, it would be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy another side to the 'tropical attitude' ... another harbor, in a different light, far away from those crowds. I get a yearning for the OBX ("Out…

Among my favorite Buffett tunes is "Everybody's on the Phone"
It's a lot of fun, and really sums up today's society's love affair with the wireless world.
Everybody's on the Phone (
play)
(Buffett/Will Kimbrough)
Message in a bottle, rhythm of a drum
Smoke signals and telegraphs make the airwaves hum
But that's all ancient history like bongs and Lincoln Logs
Now we livin' like the Jetsons in a wireless wacky fog
Squawkin' tal…
