Nissan Retrospect

2009 Buffett at Nissan ... It was a great, great time, with everyone who came for the Thursday show ... our group was small, but BIG on friendship and fun! Food was great, and everyone on "Tailgate Row" became a family before the afternoon was finished. I met folks from all over Virginia from Roanoke to Tidewater, Fredrecksburg to Pulaski. There were lots from Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and I met folk from as far away as Nashville, Chicago, and New Orleans. There were… Continue

Something to Drink About

Here's a new song written by and first performed by Jimmy Buffett, for employees, family and friends at a surprise appearance at Margaritaville Cafe Key West on February 12, 09 (link) There's a full account of the story at the Margaritaville site, Jimmy Buffet at Margaritaville Key West. I'll post the video here as well... enjoy. We’ve Got a lot to Drink About Up on the East side of Manh… Continue

Outer Banks Fins

After reading Jimmy's diary about his time on the Outer Banks, I'm thinking the Fins should think about a vacation on the Outer Banks. Although it's a complete reversal of the usual Fins of the Valley 'outing' -- not exactly a trip to a Buffett concert at Nissan, or a Parrothead weekend adjustment. But to me, it would be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy another side to the 'tropical attitude' ... another harbor, in a different light, far away from those crowds. I get a yearning for the OBX ("Out… Continue

On the Phone

Among my favorite Buffett tunes is "Everybody's on the Phone" It's a lot of fun, and really sums up today's society's love affair with the wireless world. Everybody's on the Phone (play) (Buffett/Will Kimbrough) Message in a bottle, rhythm of a drum Smoke signals and telegraphs make the airwaves hum But that's all ancient history like bongs and Lincoln Logs Now we livin' like the Jetsons in a wireless wacky fog Squawkin' tal… Continue

Buffett in the News

It's amazing how many times "Jimmy Buffett" or "Parrotheads" appears in the news. Seems, lots of writers refer to Jimmy, even in articles that have nothing to do with the world of Parrotheads. I've been feverishly tracking the news and travel channels, waiting for the first hint that a date has been set for Jimmy's next Hawaii appearance. Rumor has it that he's performing at the opening of his new "Margaritaville" restaurant in Hawaii. So, in my quest for this tidbit of news, I've uncovered a l… Continue

Hawaiian Jimmy

My latest acquisition arrived last week, and I've been having a great time listening to "Jimmy Buffett Live in Hawaii" a 3 CD set featuring 29 favorites all recorded live at the Waikiki Shell in 2005. The recording quality of this one is superb -- as good as studio recording -- so you can follow each instrument. Of particular note is the third platter, a DVD, which features 16 minutes of video footage, three songs and intros, that give you the true flavor of a Hawaiian concert.… Continue

Don't Stop the Carnival

My latest Buffett CD was found in Amazon's "Used" department after hearing the tune "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" played on Pandora. The bonus are the DVD tracks included on the 3rd CD. About the album: Herman Wouk's novel Don't Stop the Carnival -- a tale of a frustrated middle-aged man who dreams of escaping the city for tropical paradise -- is the ideal literary vehicle for Jimmy Buffett, a… Continue

Opening Pandora's Box

I'm encouraging everyone who has a broadband connection to check out Pandora. This is one of the best "finds" in years. I've been using it for about a year now as my "music" jukebox. Pandora allows you to create your own station based on type of music or artist. I've got about a dozen stations depending on mood -- Jimmy Buffett station being my most frequently playlist. Once you've set up a station, Pandora gives you a continual feed of high-quality music based on the characteristics of your cr… Continue

I'm looking for ... "A Smart Woman ... "

I have the pleasure of announcing that TODAY is the 37th anniversary of wedding my wonderful wife, Carol. Here's to YOU, Carol. Way back, some time in the very early 1970s I was a dirty hippy artist, wandering the streets of Richmond, VA -- singing this song, even before Jimmy Buffet wrote these immortal words ... Bimbo limbo is where I been. I know you know it's been wearin' me thin. Times are changing, and it's about time. I'm rearranging all the guilt in my mind. IContinue

Ed's vacation

This came to me without any notation of who wrote it, but it's a lot of fun. Women will particularly enjoy it... Ed's vacation Ed finally decides to take a vacation. He books himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeds to have the time of his life - until the boat sinks. He found himself swept up on the shore of an island with no other people, no supplies... Nothing. Only bananas and coconuts. After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most gorgeous woman… Continue

Pour the alcohol in a cocktail shaker and shake. Next add the two juices and mix well. Strain over ice in a tall glass. Also, remember to use just a little Creme de Menthe, you do not need to use too much.

NOTE: FRUITCAKES
You know I was talking to my friend Desdemona the other day. She runs this space station and bake shop down near boomtown. She told me that human beings are flawed individuals. The cosmic bakers took us out of the oven a little too early -- and thats the reason were as crazy as we are.
And I believe it.
